Cool people like cool things, which is why we asked Harmony to share a taste of her taste on Perfectly Imperfect.

Harmony is a Los Angeles-based musician who came up in the 2010s as half of the iconic rock duo Girlpool (PI #168) with Avery Tucker. Shortly after releasing 2022’s Forgiveness, the band decided to go on an indefinite hiatus to explore different creative directions. Back in August Harmony debuted her electropop sound on her new EP Dystopia Girl with euphoric bops such as “Shoplifting From Nike,” the Dylan Brady co-produced earworm “Good Things Take Time,” and poignant ballads like “Dystopia Girl.” She’s performing her new material tonight at Baby's All Right in New York City, followed by shows in London and Los Angeles in the coming weeks. Lucky for us, Harmony is here to tell us what she’s been into.

🏹 🩵 🐁 Powder blue eyeshadow as a statement of intention

I have been a powder blue eyeshadow advocate since 2019 or 2020. It all started when I bought a stila periwinkle eyeshadow tube. Since then, I have sought new shades of such a blue. Powder blue eyeshadow just really says “I am from a movie from 1999 and I am smarter than you.” I love it. Every lip you pair with blue eyeshadow is shocking, striking, bold and jarring. It’s absolutely the most fashion thing I could think of besides a nice taupe. 

💅 🧳 Big bags + an iPad in the bag (It is cunt)

I think it’s really beautiful how I can fit so many objects including my iPad (which is cunt) in a bag. This is a more recent discovery for me as I have been a mid-sized purse user, but now that I have seen the light of that which is large, some would even say oversized, I will never be the same. Having an iPad is also so cool. I remember a year ago I was like “There is nothing more powerful than a girl with a hangover and an iPad” and now I get to be one. I said this as soon as I got it, and my enthusiasm is 100% sincere

I’m obsessed with what Disney has been and become. Like I am enamored with the history, the lore, everything about it (I have watched so many defunctland videos it's disturbing.) Firstly, I can’t believe Disney began with a man drawing something and now Disneyland alone brings in like 11 million dollars a day. It’s genuinely unbelievable. And I think it’s so sweet how people get connected to these drawn characters through storytelling, through seeing little parts of themselves in it, it’s just beautiful. It’s so crazy what art in collaboration with capitalism can do, and the empire astounds, boggles, disturbs and inspires me beyond. BESIDES all of this stuff, I love Disneyland as it’s like the one place that is so overstimulating to me and immersive that I literally can go there and not think about anything else. It’s like the most wholesome form of escapism and it means so much to me being able to do that, just pull up to Disneyland and disassociate into like a cartoon from the 1940s. I love the early Hollywood vibes and lore associated with it, the earliest cartoons are my favorite. Ok one more thing. ALSO the dark underbelly is so interesting to me. Like how anything that is advertising being front-facing ideal and perfect is fucked up (obviously.) Also my EP cover was shot there 

💍 😝 Being engaged

I am not engaged but I have this vision of being engaged where you’re like on an airplane riding in business class and you’re in a brown mohair sweater and have a delicate, elegant, epic engagement ring on your finger and maybe you’re sipping like champagne? I don’t know, this is my deepest fantasy you are accessing right at your fingertips….I want it so bad????

There’s not really words for this one, more of a vibe, more of a constant discovery, task, exploration. A thing to carry with and enjoy.

I literally know I am not getting my moneys worth with this but someone else probably would. It’s $25 a month and you can see three movies a week and you get discounts on popcorn? It’s frickin epic beyond. I just need to go to the movies more 

🐵 🛍️🛒 🎁 🖼️ A Discount

I feel like I really like when things are discounted, not only because I save money, but because I like to be reminded that value is inherently fluid, flexible and not stagnated at all. Everything in life is a product of our perception of it, our understanding of what something's value is changes the thing completely. I love that. That being said, SSENSE sale sections takes all my money for real

📖 🔑 💁‍♀️ Self help books for fun

I love finding wisdom in trite, intentionally wise and clever places (ex. Musicals) I feel like I’m always in a place where I could learn or know more about myself or why I am internally structured the way I am. Reading self help books can be a vibe and it is one to me. Just read “The Mountain is You” that one was nice, “Atomic Habits” is amazing, love Joe Dispenza across the board.

Nobody does it like this anymore! This is the best accent… Everything you say sounds so intelligent and ridiculous at the same time (depending on delivery.) I feel like it’s about time it returns to the silver screen….
