Cool people like cool things, which is why we asked Daine to share a taste of their taste on Perfectly Imperfect.
Daine is a Melbourne-based singer and songwriter. The Charli XCX-mentored artist has a sound that’s constantly evolving and informed by genres such as hardcore, midwest emo, trap, and pop. The track “SALT” leading up to the 2023 EP shapeless features Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes and Daine’s aptitude for an angsty and relentless sound is front & center. Their two most recent singles, “BITE BACK” and “CUT MY HEART OUT,” are sexy club bangers with buzzing synths that show them veering into a new direction and I can’t wait to see what’s next. Daine performed at our NYFW party and killed it, so be sure to catch them on tour this April supporting Bring Me The Horizon. Lucky for us, Daine is here to tell us what they’ve been into.
Without further ado
Twelve is my favorite jewelry brand hands down. I love how Haley (the genius behind Twelve) blends beautiful and creepy so seamlessly.
🌃 Melbourne
I was born and raised in Melbourne (the birthplace of Aesop too!) so this might seem biased to some, but I think anyone who has the opportunity to visit Melbourne should jump at it. It feels like all my favorite aspects of NYC condensed into one place. There’s so much to do, it’s really easy to get around / navigate. Probably my favorite city in the world, and before people go crazy - don’t worry, Sydney ranks a close second. Sydney might be prettier, but Melbourne’s always just a little cooler.
Song of the year sorry. Wrote and produced this one with one of my best friends in his bedroom in Melbourne, and then like 2 weeks later shot the music video on my camera absolutely shitfaced at a club night I run (Nocturne) with another one of my best friends. If you’re wondering why the video is so shaky and wonky and all over the place, we were like one bump away from a k-hole. I think because of that, this video really encapsulates the hedonism of youth, friendship and the resurrection of fun club music.
👟 ROMBAUT
Favorite shoe brand 100%. It’s hard to find sick shoes that are vegan in my opinion so Rombaut is a godsend for me. I wear them on stage at essentially every show I play. Impeccable in aesthetic, function and ethics. 10/10.
🕸 Spider-man (and it’s incredible representation)
Spider-man has always been my favorite movie but recently I learned that my disability was featured in the latest movie (Across The Spider-Verse). When I saw a dynamically disabled Spider-Woman leap across the screen at the cinema, I cried straight away. I’ve linked a post where I go into more detail about this. Spider-man is a symbol of resilience despite adversity, and since living in Queens (like Spider-man!) for the past few weeks, I’ve channeled that philosophy in my daily life more than ever.
