AUSTIN: Perfectly Imperfect x Baby's All Right
Baby's rides to Texas feat. Chanel Beads, Fcukers, Angel b2b Lulu, Godcaster, Greg Freeman, Cooper B Handy (LUCY), Voyeur, YHWH Nailgun, Miss Madeline, May Rio, Lip Critic, and more.
We’re excited to announce the return of our Austin, TX Showcase: NYC BEAT.
In collaboration with our comrades over at
and Rosaluna Mezcal, we’re hosting some of our most beloved bands at The Creek and the Cave in Austin, TX on Saturday March 16th from 7pm - 2am.This showcase is unofficial, and unaffiliated with SXSW and it’s unsavory sponsors. We really don’t rock with that. Our show is free and open to the public, and we’ll be collecting donations for The Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund at the show.
Won’t you join us?
Greg: You know, I struggle with things like this sometimes because when I can tell people are cool and know it it makes me want to not listen, but I’ve seen these fools play a couple of times now and I have to give it up; they’re fucking good. I really like this live set and to be truthful, they’re sweeties who are engaging to converse with… plus they’re super hot??? I guess some people really do just “have it all” damn.
Tyler: Truly unlike anything else. Whether it's Shane's live yell-singing, their poetic lyrics, Maya's backing vocals, or the gorgeous atmosphere supporting it all, they're a special one to see live. They'll go down as one of the best groups from this era of NYC, no doubt in my mind.
Caroline: I really love everything these guys make. Police Scanner is a haunting track that really does feel like the dizziness of driving down a dark suburban road, seeing only passing headlights. There’s an optimism in this music that I so love.
Billy: They just might win $%#&.
Alex: Having not heard any music, and working purely off the name, I was skeptical. Upon arriving at their debut Baby’s show, late night, in a room teaming with people, I was immediately obsessed. One of the most exciting acts to come outta NYC in years. Mothers REFUSES to quit.
Greg: I worked a Fcukers show at DROM last year that was insane. Jackson is with it big time. They have legs and know it. Baby’s own Jules Lustig is traveling with them as front of house so you know they will sound exceptional!!!
Tyler: These guys are fcuking good. If you can make it through Mothers or Devil Cut without needing to dance, there's something wrong with you. They seem to have this effortless swagger to their set, style, and basically everything they do. Downtown sound at its finest.
Caroline: So it took me a second to realize Mothers was sampling this song, with brilliance and ease. Expect lots more than just the hit, these guys have been hard at work.
Billy: Fcukers sold out their 2nd show ever at Drom and Beck was at their next. Sky's the limit with these baggy house pranksters. I think they are getting into Acid too which could really get them there faster.
Alex: New York’s BIG BAND.
Greg: There are so many of them and they’re all so talented. Fronted by Jud and Von, two true freaks, these artists are wild. I love the band, I love the drawings, I love seeing them.
Billy: Von helped me open up the record shop. She asked me to come see them at TV Eye. I had never been there before and hadn’t seen Godcaster in a long time. Their set shook me to the core and almost tore apart the venue, which was cool btw. A true capital R- Rock band exploring the boundaries with boundless energy, infinite curiosity and some Krautrock influence which we love.
Alex: Wreck me, I allow it. Songs:Ohia never really made it to my record collection growing up, not sure if it had the same potency in Australia. I’ve recently been hooked in, and Greg scratches that newfound itch like no other. Not to say he’s derivative, he brings his own flavor. You feel every word, it’s cutting and brilliant. Gets real confusing when advancing a show for him, with Greg Rutkin and Greg Horbal on copy.
Greg: Alex showed me Greg last SXSW when we were consuming drinks at some demented little air bnb off the highway at like 5AM and i’ve been obsessed ever since. There’s something in the water up in Vermont. Reincarnation of Jason Molina but for nice cool people and not for “travelers”.
Billy: I saw their last show at Baby’s last time because Alex made me and I’m glad he did. Psyched to see this set. Was feeling some Palace Brothers fronting Built to Spill at a house show in Asheville type-a energy. Please forgive me for showing my age.
Tyler: I Looked Out was one of my favorites last year. Like Alex said, major Songs:Ohia influence here, but I’m a total sucker for that sound and think Greg brings something fresh to the table.
Caroline: I only just started listening to I Looked Out, and according to my last.fm I haven’t tired of it in the slightest. Witty, smart, twangy and full, I love this stuff, and I’m super excited to see it live. This song especially.
Alex: Joe Kerwin’s favorite artist & person in the world. Need I say more?
Greg: I’ve never met anyone whomst was not obsessed with Cooper and everything he’s done. Championed by Tom Moore and Jack Kerwin, LUCY is an amazing project from Western Massachusetts that is legendary and lovely.
Billy: Cooper is our Arthur Russell but more exciting period.
Tyler: Protect Cooper at all costs, he’s one of the very best we have. Special music. Special person. Check out his latest project with I.V. - it might be my favorite yet.
Alex: Joe Kerwin’s band. Need I say more?
Greg: Jake, Joe, Sharleen… the band just played an extremely sold out show at Baby’s and Jake was sweating back stage throughout the whole thing. They’re obviously “going places”.
Billy: I’ve seen two Voyeur shows at Baby’ this year. Their last show at Baby’s was the best live Rock thing I’ve seen in NYC since Model Actriz at The Dance in 2020. This band is like the epilogue to Please Kill -This Band Could Be -in The Bathroom personified. Each part is as intriguing as the other. They are all stars. If Pitchfork hadn’t gone under their EP would've been Best New Music.
Tyler: Finally, a band that isn’t afraid of a guitar solo. Rock & Roll is back, baaaabby!
Caroline: Been on this since they were Paris Spleen, IYKYK. Finally a band giving us that Gunk Sound we so missed.
Alex: Avant-garde for the distinguished punk.
Greg: Visceral. Watched them on a boat with all the lights on once. Powerful.
Billy: Saw them on a boat once. It rocked. Yes, they rocked the boat and they are going to rock your fucking face in.
Tyler: Saw them open for Chanel Beads last year and I was blown away. Kind of like Model Actriz meets Black Midi, but like, way darker feeling.
Caroline: First saw them open for Strange Ranger last summer, instantly hooked on the doomy universe they created. Enraptured, actually.
Greg: Pop Star in the making. Anything touched by John Miller has pop star written in fire.
Billy: BIG TUNES.
Tyler: The NYC Beat Pop Star behind bangers like “Sexy Rave Boy” and “Pretty Girl Party” ft. CLIP.
Alex: May released her best song the week before this show. I think she’s a star, and it’s so fun watching people figure this out.
Greg: May is a star. Truly a fucking star. She’s a genius and an engine. I’m constantly in awe of her talents, kindness, genuineness, and friendship. We’re all literally lucky to be alive at the same time as her.
Billy: I love May and her music and watching her perform.
Tyler: Lovely music & lovely person. “Aspartame” was one of my favorites last year.
Caroline: Beloved and dear character in the babyverse, making playful and utterly beautiful music.
Alex: I can’t believe this’ll be my first time seeing Lip Critic, somehow they’ve evaded me live. Music suggests that the live show is mega.
Greg: I always say this band name in the tune of “Lip Service” by Elvis Costello. Makes me feel warm and maybe that’s something I should just keep to myself because this is a rock band.
Billy: Listening to and half watching the Milky Max video right now as I type this. Dag, shit is cold…hearing Fred from the B-52’s fronting early Liars remixed by The Prodigy premiering on 120 Minutes.
Greg: I met these two originally at a debaucherous evening at Donn’s Depot 2 years ago. Introduced by May Rio… legends all around. I’ve watched them go from being “good” to being “amazing” so fast. They put in so much work and it shows continuously!! DJ set which will have all the homies jumping.
Tyler: Two of my favorite people DJ-ing back to back. What better way to end the night?
Caroline: Consider it their birthday party.
Billy: Genius freaks, Artists, Composers, bloggers, raconteurs doing whatever the fuck they want because they can literally do anything and will. I always wondered where all of those prodigy kids on youtube would end up and this feels like that. Next level human stuff.
Alex: The DJ’s DJ.
Greg: Ah fuck, do I have to rent turn tables? This is “Jazz Billy” but maybe it’s “Baby’s All Right” Billy. Maybe it’s “The Dance” Billy in the way that we will all dance and feel good and happy =^) (?) There’s simply no one like this man in the world.
Caroline: Probably not bringing vinyl, definitely bringing good times.
Billy: Ok, can you actually just throw on the “Baby Dance” playlist? I’m gonna stay in and watch March Madness. ;-)
