PI.FYI in NYMag
"PI.FYI is currently the last remaining wholesome place on the internet, in a landscape where other platforms reward lashing out and mayhem."

Then there’s Perfectly Imperfect, a granddaddy of the form. Since time immemorial (2020), the Substack has been sending out weekly recommendations for everything from literal products to aspirational lifestyle advice…
“There was a point when I was kind of fed up with tastemaker culture,” Bainbridge said. We were having beers in a decidedly not sceney (but very pleasant!) bistro. “What one person with a newsletter in New York thinks is cool, ultimately, most people don’t give a shit about. I wanted to democratize it a bit.”
PI.FYI is what resulted. It’s an app where everyone is the voice of recommendation. On any given day, Edan from Brooklyn is recommending soft scrambled eggs; Alex from Pennsylvania vouches for getting stoned and browsing Wikipedia; Chris from New Hampshire is asking for the best college radio stations to listen to.
The app’s lone principle — you should simply talk about stuff you like! — has initially attracted a certain chill type, and PI.FYI is currently the last remaining wholesome place on the internet, in a landscape where other platforms reward lashing out and mayhem.
