Cool people like cool things, which is why we asked Anastasia Coope to share a taste of her taste on Perfectly Imperfect.
Anastasia Coope is a New York City-based artist, painter, and musician, who recently released Darning Woman, an album that we think is one of the coolest projects of 2024. Her music is equal parts lonely and comforting, haunting and sweet, the kind of sound that could only originate from such a distinctive artist. The visuals accompanying her music are equally striking, which makes sense considering Anastasia’s start as a painter. Her sound has a divine quality, almost hymnal, which The Fader aptly described it as “not so much timeless as outside time.” She’s been on a release tour with a couple of dates in the following days, and you can find more information here. For our New York readers, you can also catch a free show with Moon Diagrams at EARTH gallery on July 27th. Lucky for us, Anastasia’s here to tell us what she’s been into.
Without further ado

🪗 piano crosswalk in Seattle
I went to Seattle recently for a couple of days and I saw this crosswalk. It struck me because of how beautiful it looks, it is festive but it is not ridiculous- this to me is beauty
🖼️ Georgia the country
I have not yet been to Georgia, but my roommate has been and she shared some beautiful photos from her travels. I got a hand me down from her recently- a shirt that says “I <3 Georgia”. This influenced me to google some photos of Georgia. It seems like one of the most beautiful places in the world, and I am having a lot of dreams set in my idea of Georgia from my google searches.
🎬 out 1
Jacques Rivette has solidified himself as a true favorite of mine through the prep for this album cycle. I’m thinking of his movies while putting together my intentions for most of my music videos. I’ve always watched what I could of Out 1 but could never watch it all together because I couldn’t find a download link. It was set to download on Pirate Bay for a long time and then one day it miraculously downloaded, now I am watching it in order.
🪔 furniture
Mostly these days I think about furniture, and spend a lot of my time looking at furniture online. I got this beautiful lamp four months ago, and now I match everything to it.
🥛 Glassware
There are few things more beautiful than glass. Someone once told me that glass is actually one of the strongest materials, but I can’t explain why because I don’t remember the specifics. Some glassware approaches an impossibly perfect form. I like paperweights, perfume bottles, and pitchers. I’m resuming my collection soon, but first I need to save some money.
🎼 imovie
I had a fulfilling experience making a music video for my song “Cheshire Carol” on iMovie. I make a lot of videos there and am working to master the app. The projection that I play at some of my shows I also made on iMovie.
🌷Aurora Leigh
I’m 40 pages into this book and really enjoying it. I got it for Christmas this year and read around 15 pages and then put it down. The other day I picked it back up and I am enthralled.
