Cool people like cool things, which is why we asked Nourished By Time to share a taste of his taste on Perfectly Imperfect.
Marcus Brown (aka Nourished By Time) is a Baltimore-based musician who recently signed to XL Recordings. His critically acclaimed debut album Erotic Probiotic 2 came out last year and received high praise from publications like Pitchfork, The Guardian, Fader, The Washington Post, and most importantly, Perfectly Imperfect (I love this album). His music blends 90s dance music, lofi pop, R&B, and electronica into something very special and entirely his own. His latest project, an EP titled Catching Chickens, was released back in March and you can check it out here. You can also catch Nourished By Time on his first headlining tour, throughout the US this summer. Lucky for us, Marcus is here to tell us what he’s been into.
Without further ado

💪 Pushups
classic idk if they do anything significant really but its more of a mediation and like good way to see how out of shape you’ve become. I used to be an athlete before music so I think my body is confused why I just sit around so much now.
🧠 Mind mapping
my brain can be kinda gnarly so this helps me flesh everything out and relax. I draw my own mind maps or do them on this app called Obsidian but yea it helps me problem solve and also study and research random shit i’m curious about. You basically just write something and draw a connection to it and so on and it’s supposed to mimic how the brain has thoughts.
✅ Radicalizing your mom
I was trying to radicalize my dad and ended up radicalizing my mom and its way doper seeing her question society more and you realize its cause our generation got so much more access to information and her generation still trusts establishment media that feeds them more manipulative narratives than facts. Like I can’t watch CNN without laughing and then getting angry.
🧘 Having an identity outside of identity politics
you gotta have a real personality and real thoughts of your own. Make the marketers and ad companies earn their money. Be original and real and you’ll strengthen whatever community you love
🥩 Eating some scrapple
scrapple is organ meat so its mad healthy. Its also my favorite breakfast meat way more than bacon or sausage tbh. I posted about my love for scrapple once and I received some pushback but I got 29 years in the game and cant be stopped.
💭 Following your dreams cause of covid
i do think Covid confirmed how cooked the world is. IF you've been paying attention the veil has been lifted and once you seen whats underneath you can never be the same. Everyones advice is always going to be a projection so you might as well live in your own projection.
