Cool people like cool things, which is why we asked cool person Hunter Harris to share some recommendations on Perfectly Imperfect.

Hunter Harris runs the fantastic newsletter, Hung Up, where twice a week she mostly writes about Bennifer, her crush on Roger Deakins, Sharon Stone, Rihanna and Leonardo DiCaprio’s secret relationship, and Martin Scorsese not wearing his glasses anymore. She’s writing for Gossip Girl Season 2 for HBO Max and still freelances for NYMag on pieces such as this great profile on the cast of Succession or yesterday’s Julia Fox profile with photos from Juergen Teller. Hunter has great taste and lucky for us, she’s here to tell us what she’s been into.

🥃🥖🧀🍷🎉 Big Night

A store in Greenpoint that feels like a Nora Ephron column. It sells “dinner and party essentials,” which means: caviar, tinned fish, various prosciuttos and cheeses, kooky drinkware, these gluten free crackers I love that don’t taste gluten free. Also: Big Night is the title of a very good Stanley Tucci movie.

💦 Dr. Nigma Serum No. 1

The hyaluronic acid serum. I got a sample from Emily Montague at Shani Darden and was hooked. It’s bad that this serum is so expensive, but it’s even worse that it’s absolutely worth it. I pat it into my skin on select mornings — budgeting! — and I look like a new person. Makes my skin say: Ain't no miles on this here new body.

🍕 Pinsa alla Carbonara from Bar Camillo

I’m recovering from a weird phase when it seemed like every pizza I ate was, in some way, uninspired. But this pizza and carbonara hybrid is the most important union in my life. (The pinsa amatriciana is good too.) Bar Camillo is lowkey, and has a backyard that’s tolerable in the cold and divine in summer.

Getting shit framed is, by a wide margin, the most adult thing I do. It’s luxurious! I started framing magazines I’d written cover stories for — silly, stupidly celebratory — and now I frame movie posters and stills. (I’m addicted to Posteritati.) Framing is more than an errand, it’s a ritual. It’s a way of saying: “I love this $100 and a custom cut piece of glass-worth.” I go to Framebridge because it’s closest to my apartment.

🗣 ← This Emoji that I call ‘running my mouth’

Something I think about a lot is a W Magazine interview where Annette Bening lists her favorite emojis: “I’ve been using that loudspeaker one. It means I’m making noise about something.” It means I’m making noise about something! That sentence is magic. My favorite emoji is the one that’s the silhouette of a person running their mouth — it means I’m gossiping, hollering, giving instructions or delivering a demand. In short: it means I’m making noise about something.

💄 Ami Colé Lip Treatment Oil

I don’t really wear makeup anymore — pandemic, laziness, generally spending most of the day in bed looking at a google doc — but this is glamour in a tube. A lipgloss that doesn’t feel sticky or gummy on the lips, and looks a little more “done” than the Aquaphor that’s always in my pocket.

Gross, but: I love seeing aestheticians post gnarly extractions on Instagram. While scrolling through the #extractions hashtag a few months ago, I realized that car detailers use the hashtag too. Watching these people suction years worth of dirt and grime out of car seats is my favorite smooth brain activity. I don’t have a car! I (can but) don’t drive! I don’t even know how you get a car so dirty!

👰😪👀🦾🛀 Nicole Kidman’s 2004

Nicole Kidman made two movies in 2004: Birth and The Stepford Wives. I lose entire hours thinking about what an iconic flop era that was. A big glossy studio remake that was tested and re-tested into a new ending, but it still has a some sharp edges; an utterly strange, moving story about a boy walking into a woman’s apartment and saying he’s her dead husband reincarnated. The other girls just were not doing it like her.
