Cool people like cool things, which is why we asked cool person Patrick Doran to share some recommendations on Perfectly Imperfect.

Patrick Doran (aka @lunch_enjoyer) loves lunch, skating, and chilling. He’s one of my favorite people to follow on Twitter and he hosts a very good podcast called “Podcast About List” along with Caleb Pitts and Cameron Fetter. He’s trying to get his masterpiece, “Patrick Goes To Jollibee The Documentary”, back on Letterboxd, so if you know anyone at Letterboxd HQ help him out. 📀 Fight Fast DVDs

In 2018, my Grandpa moved in with my family for a couple months and he forgot a bunch of his stuff when he moved out. He left behind a stack of these self defense DVDs he owned made by this company called Fight Fast. They’re some of the sickest things I’ve ever seen. They all have these crazy titles like “Krav Maga: The Israeli Connection,” “Combat Tai Chi,” and “American Bad Ass Survival Guide” (that one comes with a lockpick set). The best DVD that I unfortunately lost when I was moving was this one about tactical knife throwing. I wish I remembered the title, it was amazing. The presenter is this overweight middle aged man with the wildest bald ponytail I’ve ever seen. The thing that really got me about this one is how he talks about being ex special ops and he has to blur his face because the government doesn’t want him revealing these knife throwing tips. The whole video he’s got his voice deepened like darth vader too, It’s incredible. If anybody finds this please reach out to me. I need to see this again.

There’s this instagram account that compiles a bunch of skate edits that people made in like 2005-09 and it rocks so much. I get super nostalgic watching it. I miss seeing all the Windows Movie Maker title cards and like star wipes and shit, those need to make a comeback. Every post on there reminds me of when I first started skating. When I was nine I had my cousin take pics of me pretending to do a front crook on this bench in our backyard and I brought the pic into school and showed it to my classmates. It reminds me of that.

🧃 Cold Brew Concentrate

I’m so addicted to caffeine it’s embarrassing. I don’t know why, but for years I wouldn’t drink coffee. I think it was a taste thing? I don’t know. I started drinking coffee because I’m a 24 year old man and I can’t drink Monster Energy every day anymore. Also, they got like one billion ingredients in Monster. I don’t know what the fuck L-carnitine is but i’ve put so much of it into my body and I constantly feel like a science experiment. Anyways, I’ve really been into cold brew concentrate lately. My roommate has this big plastic cold brew maker that he leaves in the fridge overnight and I'm way too lazy to use that. Don’t know the name of the brand but it’s got a lizard on it, it costs $9, and it lasts me a week. All I gotta do is pour it into some water and I’m good to go.

💤 Sleeping With An Eye Mask On:

I don’t sleep too well. I don’t know if it’s an Adhd thing or all the caffeine I put into my body, but it’s gotta be something. Like a week or two ago I found a JetBlue eye mask that I never used in my backpack and I’ve been using it to sleep. Honestly, that shit rules. This is probably some of the best sleep I’ve been getting in my life. Only downside is sometimes the mask will move while I'm sleeping and I’ll wake up with it covering my nose.

🧢 Wearing a hat that fits

I don’t know what happened in the last ten years but hats started to get smaller. I know I have a big Irish head, but what the fuck? Half the time I put one of these “one size fits all” hats on it either looks like I'm struggling to keep it on my head or it just doesn't fit at all. It can’t just be a me problem. Either people’s heads are shrinking or they’re cutting costs by making hats smaller. It’s so fucked. Anyways, I got this Dime hat at a skate shop and it fits perfectly. Also Ebbets makes good hats too.

🎵 Prefab Sprout

Started listening to Prefab Sprout in college after a buddy of mine recommended them to me and they instantly became my favorite band. Literally every song they’ve put out is perfect. It’s honestly annoying how much I like them. I’ve 100% gotten drunk before and ranted about how great of a songwriter Paddy McAloon is to my friends and people I barely know. I swear to god, he played every single chord in existence in the beginning of I Never Play Basketball Now. I tried learning how to play it through some youtube tutorial made by a middle aged british dude playing it in his backyard and immediately said “fuck that its too hard” and put the guitar down. It’s also so sick that Paddy McAloon dresses up like some kind ofPimp Santa now. I love them so much.
