Cool people like cool things, which is why we asked Omar Apollo to share a taste of his taste on Perfectly Imperfect.
Omar Apollo is a Los Angeles-based producer and singer/songwriter. I became a fan after his 2018 release Stereo, where I loved the velvety warmth and romance of tracks like Ugotme and Erase, and he’s been producing heartbreak anthems and glimmering pop gems ever since. His latest album, God Said No, came out on June 28th, and he just kicked off a tour (tickets here). Omar is making his acting debut in Luca Guadagnino’s highly anticipated Queer, a film adaptation of William S. Burroughs' 1985 semi-autobiographical novel where he stars alongside Daniel Craig. Omar also tells us that he just re-released his “amazing” hot sauce, it’s called Disha Hot and it’s been teased as an upcoming Taco Bell collab. Lucky for us, Omar is here to tell us what he’s been into.
Without further ado

🎤🧣 Vocal Health
If you want to sing like a god, I found out you need to get a tea pot with hot water and put the water on a towel and wrap your neck. Just lay there and let it be hot. It warms up the muscles and lets you sing without any tension. You can sing longer, your tone is better. If you’re on tour and it’s cold out, wear a scarf. Always keep your neck warm. I’m on tour now and playing Forest Hills on September 7th. Get tickets here. The show’s honestly amazing.
🌶🫑 Disha Hot
I originally made this Hot Sauce in 2021 during covid when things weren’t as busy, but we put it on pause. We finally brought it back and it’s on sale now on our website. When my parents immigrated to Indiana they opened a restaurant called “El Super Taco” but they sadly had to close it when I was born. I always wanted to pay them back and this sauce is my way of doing that. It’s my mom’s recipe and I grew up eating it at all of our big family dinners, birthdays, holidays, etc… We’re a small business so every order matters and I promise you that it’s delicious and goes with everything. I love seeing people post what they use it on. It’s got a kick.
🛫🧳 Airport Hack
I travel all the time. I always put way too much stuff in my metal suitcase (which is already heavy as hell), and I realized when they weigh it you can put your foot under the scale and push up and it lowers the weight. Nobody has ever noticed when I do it. Make sure you have a harder shoe to help support.
📱 Deleting apps
I’ve been off all of social media because there’s a lot of negative shit on there. I’ve noticed my memory’s been better, my personal relationships have improved, I have way more energy, I’m more creative, and I’m just in a better mood and much calmer overall.
👖 Belts
I think belts are really important on denim and in general. I love this brand Artemas Quibble. They’re amazing handmade belts from a husband and wife duo. They’re expensive but worth it because they last forever. I have 3 belts from them.
